Garber History

Garber High School opened for classes in the fall of 1964 and was dedicated in 1965. The school was built on farm property acquired from the Garber family. The Garber farm was founded by John and Melissa Garber in the 1800’s. The farm was passed on to Otto Garber and his wife Mabel. In addition to farming, Otto Garber was a president in the village of Essexville. Garber sold the land to the district in the early 1960’s.

Garber High School has maintained a rich tradition of educational excellence since the early days. The history of Garber is filled with accomplishments by both students and staff. A prime example of this would be the “Excellence In Education” award that Garber received in 1987. Yet another example would be the many Science Olympiad titles held by the school. Garber High School is known throughout the area for its musical productions. Garber High School is also synonymous with high academic expectations and a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities.

While the commitment to excellence has remained strong, some of the educational tools have changed over the years. Garber has five computer labs designed for a variety of applications from computer assisted drafting and design to accounting. The building also features a state of the art technology hall with a rear projection screen. As with other buildings in the district, Garber added technology to all classrooms and the media center with the passage of the bond issue in 1997. Students use the latest hardware and software to meet curriculum objectives.
