Cramer History

Cramer Junior High was built in 1969 and opened to 350 students in the fall of 1970. The building is named after Essexville-Hampton Public Schools Superintendent Quintin E. Cramer who retired in 1979.

When Cramer first opened it housed grades seven and eight. Sixth grade was added several years later. Cramer was a high-tech building for it’s time with carpeted rooms, air conditioning, and phones in each room. The building also had the unique feature of separate office areas for teachers at the back of each room. The passage of a bond issue in 1997 meant many changes for Cramer Junior High School. The building received a new technology hall addition capable of seating 80 people, the band rooms received much needed renovations, and technology upgrades were added throughout the building.

There have also been a number of changes in curriculum over the years. Cramer has been on the cutting edge of curricular innovation. From teaming to silent sustained reading programs, the Cramer staff is committed to providing the highest quality education for all students. Today, Cramer students have four computers in every classroom and access to two computer labs with 30 computers and a laser printer in each. Staff and students make use of a wide variety of equipment such as digital cameras, data projectors, document cameras, and electronic whiteboards. Software programs such as “Accelerated Reader”, “Accelerated Math”, and “Microsoft Office” are also used.

Cramer parents are actively involved in programs at the school by chaperoning field trips, organizing and chaperoning school activity nights, providing staff appreciation activities, volunteering as Science Olympiad coaches, yearbook advisors, fund-raising campaign managers, and teacher mini-grants. The “Cramer Parents for Kids” organization also sponsors the student planner handbook and school sign.
